Tromsø enjoys a tempered climate due to the North Atlantic Current that extends the Gulf stream to Northern Europe. However, being located in the sub-arctic, the tempeatures are in general low by summer standards most other places. The average temperatures thus ranges from from -4.4 °C in the coldest month of February to 11.8 °C in the warmest month of July.

In July, temperatures can be expected to vary from 5°C to above 20°C, and may include rain showers, though they are in general not very heavy. Warm clothes are thus recommended for most travelers. Perhaps as important as warm clothing is clothing that is fairly wind proof. But bring also summer clothing, should the weather turn out to be favorable.
